Lawyers increasingly use AI tools as part of their legal practice. As the uses of AI evolve, the ethical implications become even more important for lawyers, their clients, courts, and lawyer regulators. After completing this session, participants will be able to:
- Understand specific ways lawyers are integrating AI into their practice, including some of the misuses of AI by lawyers and court decisions addressing such misuse (and imposing sanctions).
- Analyze how the ethics rules apply to the use of AI, including newer AI tools.
- Discuss ethical obligations lawyers have with regard to using AI, including the duty to supervise; the duty of confidentiality; duties of client communication and candor to the court; and the duty to report misconduct by other lawyers.
